Additional Launches
Well since the wind was such an issue yesterday, I decided to scout out a couple more launch sites…
Baileys Beach in the Isle Of Wight.
Lawnes Creek in the Isle Of Wight.
Portsmouth City Park in Portsmouth.
Elizabeth River Landing in Norfolk
Go and check them out, and let me know how your trip went

Blustery Day in Hampton Roads.
Two primary factors kept me off the water this weekend, 1 was pure laziness, in that I was not going to put the old rack back on my truck when my new rack is on the way and should be here Tuesday (I also had a bunch of little things going on, on Saturday).
Number 2 would be that the wind on Sunday at 7 AM was already blowing a constant 20+ and gusting to 25+ and building with gusts to 50+ in some areas.

This is how things looked on the Elisabeth River at the Jordan Bridge around 11AM..

And this is how things looked on the James River on the Ferry around 4 PM…
Even though I wasn’t able to get out on the water, Nick and I got out and scouted some new launches, that will be added to kayakvb.com in the next couple of days…

I am changing my rack, and no longer need my Yakima Outdoorsman 300 Full Size Truck Rack. I have a set of 4 (2×2) with 66 inch cross bars and all mounting equipment, and I think I even have the original manuals.Retail on the whole set is about $400.00… I’m selling for $250.00… Does not include any pads, but we may be able to work something out… Contact me the usual way, or email me at RACK@KAYAKVB.INFO
Not Sure It’s a Improvement
A while back someone had mentioned to me that there had been some changes to the launch at Lovitts Landing. Today on I was heading to Drum Point and Nawney Creek, and decided to take a look at what if any improvements were done to the ramp, and apparently someone took the time to do some “Improvements” to the ramp. Lovitts was/is probably trickiest launch out there, balancing on the telephone poles was not a real fun thing to do, and with all the rusted steel mat, I’m sure it was a tetanus shot waiting to happen. What is there now, is a wooden ramp consisting of 2×6’s imbedded in concrete, and a lot of oyster shells scattered around for good measure. The tricky thing looks like it will be the uneven spacing of the boards further down the ramp, but the side of the ramp looks like it is an alternative. I am going to stop by here next time the water is low and get a better look at the ramp, I was almost tempted to give it a try today, but the little voices told me no…
