New Resource for Beginners

I would like to point out a new resource out there for those that are beginners are those looking into starting to kayak.

As Described by the author…
Smart Start Kayaking
“Kayaking for Beginners! A guide of basics, how to buy a kayak, kayak types, paddling gear,
safety, techniques, common sense and more.”

I have taken a look, several times at the site, and although I think the navigation is a bit disjointed, I think it provides a nice overall resource for a beginners and soon to be beginners, but keep mind that this is one persons opinion and advice, your experience may differ.

Camera Health

The other day I mentioned in Camera Klutz, I shared my stupidity in dropping my camera in the hard packed gravel (Only a few inches from soft mushy grass), and damaging the lens. For some reason, when I bought the camera, broke down and bought the extended warranty, not something I normally do but I’m glad I did this time. My wife dropped the lens off at the Ritz Camera, where I purchased it, and apparently the lens is covered, and I should see the repaired lens or a replacement in a couple weeks.

Cool Canoe…

Ok I’m pretty sure everyone out there has seen this one, a canoe made entirely of recycled chopsticks, a tad over 7,000 to be exact. Wood boats are beautiful, but I don’t think I’d ever want to own one, I think I said that not to long ago about fiberglass kayaks…

This one comes to us from pinktentacle, man it must be nice to have that kind of free time…

Horn Point IS Open

Just a confirmation that Horn Point Kayak and Canoe launch is now open for the season, and there is a caretaker on site. I had a little chat with Danny (the Caretaker) today, and he seems like a real nice and helpful guy.

The other thing to take not of is that the sandbar has pretty much moved to the other side of the channel, the deepest part was only about 6 inches or so. It was a bit of a nuisance, having to step up and over the wood bulkhead.

So enjoy…

Launch Site Re-Write

I have really started in earnest working on the re-write of the launch site portion of kayakvb.com, and at a minimum I will be switching from Yahoo Maps to google maps. The other things that are on my short list of things to add are directions to and from a specific location, downloadable GPS waypoints.

I have been considering adding some sort of user feedback or comments capability for each launch, as I do not have the time to visit every location on a regular basis, and it would be a good way to keep others informed of the status or condition of launch sites.

If you have any requests, comments, or feedback, feel free to leave them here or email me at PAUL AT KAYAKVB.COM and don’t be shy.

As soon as I have a somewhat working preview, I’ll post a link here, somewhere here…
Thank You
