On May 22nd the city of Smithfield will formally dedicate Windsor Castle Park, and from what I have seen the park has a great kayak/canoe facility, that I plan on visiting real soon. The park is currently open from dawn to dusk.

Located right in the heart of downtown Smithfield, this 209.8 acre riverside park features a woodland trail system, picnic and play areas, a dog park, kayak and canoe launch, scenic overlook and the Windsor Castle Historic Site.

Ok I am willing to shoulder some of the blame, because I am 2 versions behind, but not much of the blame…

Why do Garmin’s MetroGuide V5 Maps suck so bad in North Carolina, I was out kayaking today, and a couple of islands are missing, like swan island, as well a couple channels. Here is a google map link to where the arrow ont the GPS is pointing to.

When you and when you cross into North Carolina on the Northwest River it turns into a very fine line, instead of the wide river it is, as illustrated below and in this google map link.

I still love my GPS 60, but not real happy with missing islands and such

For some reason, when I bought the camera, broke down and bought the extended warranty, not something I normally do but I’m glad I did this time. My wife dropped the lens off at the Ritz Camera, where I purchased it, and apparently the lens is covered, and I should see the repaired lens or a replacement in a couple weeks.

It has been just over 2 years since my last trip to Lake Drummond, and it was nice to see that the new Route 17 had opened, and the City of Chesapeake came up with a great idea of the old route 17. They have converted the majority of the old road into a linear park, paralleling the Dismal Swamp Canal. The trail is intended to support a myriad of activities, and is open from sunrise to sunset. I can’t remember of this is my 5th or 6th trip out here, but all the other times I have launched here, I was usually the only one in the parking lot, maybe one other car/truck in the lot, but today the were about 15 to 20 cars in the lot, and there were also plenty of people on bikes on the trail, coming down from the north end of the trail.
