An update on the Pocaty River Launch, from Charlie...

Mr. Br...,
As this project is not under our responsibility, I sent your email to our Public Works Dept. for their input. Kevin Lundgren responded that, "Our records (deeds and titles) do not indicate that their exists any R/W or easements for such a boat/kayak launch. Their is very limited R/W available which does not allow for any roadside parking. Due to traffic safety requirements, the approaches will also have guardrail approaching the bridge that will be attached to the bridge railing - thus making such access difficult, not practical, and less safe. Additionally, the rip-rap, necessary to protect the bridge abutments and embankments from erosion, will sit, essentially, in the same location as the ramp. The new bridge will be slightly longer and wider than the existing bridge."

If I can be of any further assistance, please let me know.

Regards,
Carol Lindgren

I loved yakking on Whitehurst and did it several times a week for several years to clear my head after work. Tried getting to it through the LC Res and it is possible, but forbidden--signs are posted. Probably inadvisable to try until the road construction is finiahed.

I am trying to find out if anyone knew Stanley Tull when he operated Tull Bay Marina in the mid-90s. Do you know anyone I might ask?

Been there
It is actually not an error, just a lack of detail, plus I think they have fixed it in the new version.
My version is 2 years old, and I don't think I should have to shell out $100+ for new maps.
As far as the omissions go some of the islands are not on the USGS maps, I guess that is because they are barely islands...

I notice that you are going to do a re-write of your launch site. I have 2 you can add: Bob's fishing hole in Chesapeake and Pretty lake in Norfolk. I do not have pictures of the launch site but I have been to them both.

Pretty Lake if you go down shore drive and take a left onto Pretty Lake Ave. you go down not even a quater mile and there is a sandy boat ramp on the curve and pretty adequate parking as well. I have kayaked here a few times. I do not have photos of the launch itself but have pictures of the lake and of birds and inland creeks of the lake will take you to. Very quiet here not alot of boat traffic. I can get pictures of the launch site if you need it.

By the way I just want to thank you for your time and effort you have put into your site. It has helped me alot. I do love to go kayaking and your site is what had really inspired me into kayaking. I past you on your trip out at Baum Rd on July 12TH in a blue kayak you told there was alot of boat traffic on the river.

Not that I expect you to read it, but you could submit an error form on Garmin's website... probably even faster than you wrote this post. http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/errorForm.jsp
