New Launch Sites Added
Weather today was not good for kayaking, so my daughter and I went out exploring, and visited 3 new launch sites, and those have been added to KayakVB.
General Vaughan Bridge
This is on the Nottoway River, just a few miles from the North Carolina Border.
Murfreesboro Boating Access
A nice launch site provided by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
Merchants Millpond
A great place, that I have been trying to get to since June.
No commentsHanna…
Saturday afternoon, I took a drive to a few launch sites close to me to see how the wind from Hanna affected them, Despite what the local media would have you believe, other then a little high water, Hanna was nothing compared to Ernesto…
All in all, the only issue I really had was the flooding at Horn Point….
- The Gage at Lotus Pond
- High Water, but not that high
- Little Island
- Normally where the Host is parked
- Concrete Ramp at Horn Point flooded
- Water Level near the restrooms
- Looking towards the sand bar launch at Horn Point
- Back Bay NWR Ramp flooded
- Horn Point Road flooded
- Looking South on Horn Point Road from the Back Bay NWS gate
- Horn Point Road flooded looking at Back Bay
- Ramp Flooded at North Landing River
- Water to the top of the bulkhead
- Flooded field near North Landing River
- Water to the top of the dock at Dozier Bridge
p.s. I have a few more launch sites to be added soon…
No commentsMore Launches Added
Just a note to let everyone know that I added a few more launches to the primary site.
The new sites are…
Huntington Park In Newport News
Gloucester Point on the York River in Gloucester
Mill Creek On the Rappahanock
and Parrotts Creek just off the Rappahanock
I found that I have a few more, that I forgot to add when checked them out over the winter, as soon as I get them straightened out I’ll add them…
No commentsPirates Of Lynnhaven Bucaneers On the Bay…
The Pirates Of Lynnhaven had the inaugural Buccaneers On the Bay, crossing of the Chesapeake. A 20 mile crossing of the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. Out of the 14 starters, 2 paddlers completed the trip, all proceeds from the event went to Special Olympics. A large number of paddlers were turned back due to weather concerns. Overall the event was a good time for all involved.
- Pirates Of Lynnhaven Flag
- The 2 successful Paddlers
- TugCapn Arriving
- Jeff Gibson, from the Blackwater Worldwide extreme racing team...
- TugCapn about to cool off
- Cooling off
- TugCapn cooling off
- TugCapn's Boat that Made made the trip
- POL Banner
I would have joined in the fun, but I found out too late, and had family commitments .
1 commentHigh Temps, Low Motivation
It has been a combination of several things, including the heat and potential for T-Storms, but I just haven’t been motivated to hit the water this summer. I have wanted to make some trips out West, but the fires and my work schedule have been just kicking my butt.
